We therefore focus on nature experience tours with wildlife watching in Danube Delta, the region that provides sanctuary for 300 species of bird and 160 species of fish.
Stunning scenery, wonderful wildlife, easy walks, and a warm welcome that includes some delicious local cuisine.
Spend 3 nights and 4 days exploring the rich wildlife and culture of Danube Delta – one of the largest single expanses of reed beds in the world—aboard boats built to maximise your interaction with nature and minimise the impact on the environment.
Your adventure begins in Mila23, a village surrounded entirely by water and nature. From here, the routes weave through some of the most picturesque areas of the Delta. Narrow channels open into wide lakes; reedbeds stretch endlessly along the horizon; and the mornings feel almost unreal with their soft light and quiet movements. Mila23 has a special charm, small, traditional, and perfectly placed right in the heart of this vast wilderness. It’s the kind of place where you instantly slow down and start paying attention to the details.
The journey continues toward Letea, a village that still holds the spirit of the old Hohol communities. As you approach, the landscape changes again. The sandy soils, the centuries-old oak forest, the wild horses wandering freely, and the silence of the dunes all create a place that feels untouched by time. Letea is a reminder that the Delta is not just water and reeds, it’s also forest, sand, culture, and stories passed down through generations. It’s a world where wilderness and tradition live side by side.

Arrive in Port Tulcea Aval and transfer by boat to Mila23, where you’ll be staying for the rest of the tour.
There will be two sessions on the day to discover the lakes and canals around Mila23, a remarkable ecosystem and a true natural laboratory. This area, where the interaction between humans and nature has evolved over centuries, supports extraordinary biodiversity and plays a crucial role in the global ecological balance.
* between the two sessions, there is the option of having lunch and a visit to the Ivan Patzachin Museum. This museum celebrates the achievements and concerns of Ivan Patzaichin and provides a vibrant setting for showcasing the culture and traditions of the Lipovans of Mila 23. It will also raise awareness of the fragility of the Danube Delta’s biodiversity.
This morning, you will continue the tour with a visit to Letea Forest and village. The extreme modesty of the compositions, give the vernacular architecture of the Letea Village a spiritual air that we rarely find today. The Letea Forest in the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve is considered the most exotic place in Romania, and it has been under protection since 1930 and in 1938 it was declared a nature reserve at the insistence of romanian naturalists. It contains numerous species of flora and fauna, including Balkan, Mediterranean, subtropical and steppe species, which give it a particularly high landscape value.
* on one of these mornings, depending on the weather forecast, you will have bonus, a trip to watch the sunrise.
** you can opt for a traditional Hahol lunch, where you can enjoy simply cooked fish, just like they used to serve in the old days.
You should know this is not a restaurant and no other dishes can be ordered. Lunch is always based on fish and it is composed of first course (a traditional fish soup), second course (fish with potatoes in the oven) and the famous donuts of Letea, as a dessert. The hosts have a very simple service system and can only offer complete menus.
It is a long, demanding trip, so please have the minimum required equipment with you.
Prior to departure, take some last-minute photos before transferring to Tulcea.
If you are leaving Tulcea with public transport, we recommend you consider a booking after 1 o’clock P.M.
