Experience the Danube Delta at its most peaceful with our 4-day / 3-night Summer Nature Escape, designed especially for nature lovers who prefer wildlife over crowds and authentic experiences over busy sightseeing.
Unlike conventional Danube Delta tours that spend long hours on the water during the hottest part of the day, this program follows nature’s rhythm. Our boat trips take place at sunrise and again in the late afternoon, when temperatures are comfortable, waterways are quieter and wildlife is naturally more active.
Between excursions, you’ll relax in the shade of a traditional guesthouse in Mila23, enjoying local hospitality, homemade cuisine and the peaceful atmosphere of one of the most authentic villages in the Danube Delta.
Led by experienced naturalist guides with extensive knowledge of the Danube Delta’s ecology, birdlife and ecosystems, this tour is perfect for travellers who want to understand the Delta, not just see it.
Whether you are passionate about birds, wildlife, landscapes or simply looking for a meaningful summer escape, this program offers an authentic way to experience the UNESCO-listed Danube Delta while respecting its natural rhythms.
Join us for a slower, quieter and more rewarding journey into one of Europe’s last great wilderness areas.
All excursions included in this programme are operated using traditional open boats designed specifically for nature observation.
Unlike covered boats, open boats provide an unobstructed connection with the surrounding landscape, allowing you to fully experience the sounds, colours and atmosphere of the Danube Delta. With no windows or plastic covers between you and nature, you have a much better opportunity to observe wildlife, enjoy panoramic views and capture authentic photographs.
The low sides of our boats make it easier to watch birds at water level, while the stable design ensures comfort during slow exploration through channels, lakes and reed-covered landscapes. Moving at a gentle pace, we minimise disturbance to wildlife and allow our experienced guides to approach nature respectfully, following the rhythm of the ecosystem.

Letea Forest & Wild Landscapes
One of the highlights of our Summer Nature Escape is exploring the peaceful lakes and channels surrounding Mila23, during the hours when the Delta is at its most beautiful and alive.
Leaving early in the morning, when the first light touches the reedbeds and the waterways are still quiet, we navigate through a fascinating maze of narrow channels, open lakes and floating vegetation. Away from the busy routes, these secluded areas offer a completely different perspective of the Danube Delta, a place of silence, reflection and close encounters with wildlife.
The summer landscape is transformed by extensive carpets of blooming white and yellow water lilies, creating a unique scenery that has become one of the symbols of the Delta. Along the way, our experienced local guides will help you understand the complex wetland ecosystem and identify the many species that depend on these habitats.
Depending on the season and conditions, we may encounter great white egrets, grey herons, purple herons, kingfishers, terns, cormorants, pelicans and many other wetland species. The focus is not on rushing from one place to another, but on observing, learning and enjoying the natural rhythm of the Delta.
This slow-paced exploration offers a genuine wildlife experience, where every turn of the channel can reveal a new scene, a bird hunting among the reeds, a family of pelicans resting on a quiet lake, or the delicate beauty of water lilies floating on the calm surface.
A journey to Letea is one of the most unique experiences in the Danube Delta, taking you beyond the waterways and into a landscape shaped by centuries of natural adaptation.
Located in the northern part of the Delta, Letea Forest is the northernmost subtropical forest in Europe and one of the most remarkable ecosystems of the region. Here, ancient oak trees, twisted by wind and time, grow among sand dunes, dry grasslands and Mediterranean plants, creating a landscape that feels surprisingly different from the surrounding wetlands.
During this excursion, we explore the unique habitats of the area and discover the remarkable biodiversity that makes Letea so special. The famous wild horses that roam freely through the open landscapes are one of the highlights, but the area is also home to many bird species, reptiles, insects and rare plants adapted to this unusual environment.
Our experienced guides will share the stories behind this fascinating ecosystem — from the formation of the sand dunes and the survival strategies of its plants, to the relationship between local communities and this wild corner of the Danube Delta.
Note: This is not a restaurant; only full menus are available, typically fish-based: fish soup, baked fish and Letea donuts for dessert. Paid directly in cash to the hosts.
After Letea, those interested in walks and museums can visit the Ivan Patzaichin Museum in Mila23, Romania’s first New European Bauhaus ambassador hub. Open Wednesday–Sunday, 12:00–19:00, free entry (donations welcome).
Mostly the same route as arrival, at a higher speed than excursions. Disembark at the same pier. Farewell and end of services.
If taking public transport from Tulcea, consider departures after 12:00.
