Birdwatching Tour to the Danube Delta - PRIVATE


Danube Delta is rightly called the paradise of birds in Europe, where over 360 bird species live or pass through this blessed space.

As a showcase of how we work, we can tell you that we are specialized in slow tours, to discover the full offer of the Danube Delta nature, not just see / tick but sit and watch birds and animals, trying to unravel as many of their way of life. We love to discover something new each time for every species, not only identification but also the particular aspects of their lives. All this program is lead by a specialized birdwatching guide.

This is a birdwatching tour for tourists who desire a private trip, with guide only for them. This offer includes transfers from Tulcea to Mila23 and return, accommodation in hight rated 3* guesthouse, all meals, guide, boat trips for all days.

Birdwatching tour 7 days / 6 nights (or less)

This offer is for small, exclusive groups, where all attention of the guide is directed towards maximum 10 persons and the program can always be adjusted to suit the participants. If the group is larger then 10 persons, we will use 2 or more boats. The program is not standard, depending on weather, natural conditions, water levels or other factors that make the birds to migrate from one place to another, depending on your preferences, we can always adjust the program and explore any part of the Delta Danube.


Day 1: We will wait for you at Port Aval – Tulcea, at 16:00 (or at the hour we decide together). We will head to Mila 23, check in at the guesthouse, then hold a short technical meeting where we will discuss about our route, Danube Delta peculiarities and birdwatching, rules and behavior in a natural reserve.

In the evening we will have a dinner based on fresh fish.

The trip to Mila 23 is on a very beautiful route, full of birds; the twilight is perfect for the trail toward Mila 23. We will not travel on the Danube but on small canals and wild lakes, constantly looking for new subjects to observe. The transfer takes 2-2,5 hours.

Days 2-6 – Our trip into the Danube Delta will begin early in the morning, before sunrise, to catch the birds that starts to feed. After the sunrise, we will return to the guesthouse for breakfast. After the breakfast, we will go for our full day trip. We will start looking for birds around Mila 23 village; the trip will be planned according to water level and updated information about group of birds in the area. We will travel to different places in Danube Delta, the routes being decided on a day to day basis, depending on weather conditions, water level and fresh information that we have from the field.

After we see the last birds in the dusk, we will start heading back. At the guesthouse, we will have a traditional dinner based on fresh fish.

We will be looking for the stars of these places: Pelicans, both the White and the rare Dalmatians. Of course, we will be looking for any kind of bird, starting with the common Little and Great Egrets, Gray, Purple, Yellow, or Night Heron, the agile Kingfisher, the majestic White-tailed Eagle and noisy Coots. We will also look for surf birds or birds that search for food in muddy stretches: Godwits, Spoonbills, Ibises, Ruffs, Stilts and others.

Of course we will not neglect the mammals, we will always seek to find the playful otters, the cautious wild boars, the elegant roe deer, the funny muskrats or the beautiful raccoon dog.

Day 7: After a relaxed breakfast (9:00 am), this time without sunrise session, we will head back to Tulcea, in the morning, having the best light for this route.

* If you choose the transfer from the airport with us, we can make a route with several stops in interesting places where we also see several species of birds.

The price is per person (accommodation in a double room), per tour, it is expressed in euro (EUR) and inclusive VAT.

  • ENGLISH guidance (guide member of AGPDD)
  • Accommodation (number of nights according to your option) in a 3* guesthouse in Mila23. You will get 3 meals per day, starting with dinner on the first day and ending with breakfast on the last day
  • Transfers from Tulcea to Mila 23 and back (on the first and on the last day)
  • Boat trips (number of days from the program you choose) full days including guide and gasoline
  • A safary car for visiting the Letea forest
  • Fees for visiting the Danube Delta

Not included:

  • Beverages, other than water
  • Insurance of any kind (travel, goods, etc.)

Airport transfer:

We can do the transfers from Bucharest or Constanta (also Airports) to Tulcea and return.

  • 1-3 persons by sedan car – Bucharest 150 euro; Constanta 100 euro/car/one way
  • 4-6 persons by minivan – Bucharest 250 euro; Constanta 150 euro/car/one way

Bookings are based on a 20% deposit from the full payment of the program.

Meeting and boarding

The departure for this tour is made from Port Tulcea Aval. After you pass the barriers from the entrance to the port, 200 meters straight ahead, there is the pontoon where is written “DEBARCADER PASAGERI” (“PASSENGERS’ WHARF). You can find us on the pontoon in the Souvenir Shop.

To complete the payments (if any) and the communication regarding the boat you will be traveling with, we are waiting for you with 15 minutes before the departure time. The boarding will be done according to the instructions of our staff. You will be called out and you will be indicated the boat you are going with. Please do NOT board on the first boat you find at the pontoon, as several companies board from this place and you risk getting to another location.

Car parking

  • Personal cars can be parked in Tulcea, right in the yard of Port Aval, in a private, guarded parking.
  • The cost of parking is Euro 5/day/car (parking price is NOT included in the trip price and it is informative, as it can be modified by the port administration, without notice).
  • For parking spaces no bookings are made and the number of spaces is limited.

This trip is done with an OPEN BOAT

With no roof, tarpaulin or windows. The boat looks like in the photos on the website. The speed for our trips is low/medium, our boats are NOT speed boats. These are boats manufactured by the largest Romanian manufacturer of boats, according to our concept.

All our boats has upholstered bench and backrests for a maxim comfort.

Every person on the boat will receive a life jacket, mandatory to wear it during the boat trip.

We want to show you the beauties of the Danube Delta, to see birds in flight and flocks of pelicans soaring.

Please have on you:

  • Birding equipment as binoculars and/or scopes
  • Raincoat
  • Ointments or creams against insects
  • Sunscreen
  • Season appropriate clothing, long robes are mandatory, trousers, shirt and a sun hat or you will get a sun burn. Clothing with colors close to nature are recommended; red, white, yellow and blue are to be avoided
  • Trekking shoes, especially for the tours to Letea or Sulina
  • Sunglasses
