What to Expect

This is a slow-paced birdwatching trip focused on finding and observing birds without disturbing them. Instead of rushing from place to place, the guide will drive at low speed along known birding routes, stopping frequently to scan the fields, lakes, and steppe with binoculars and scope.

  • Starting time: Recommended one hour before sunrise for best sightings
  • Duration: Full day (from sunrise to sunset)
  • Terrain: Grazing fields, steppe, forest edges, lakes, and marshlands
  • Observation Style: Short walks to key observation points
  • Birding Focus: Searching for feeding and roosting birds in prime habitats

  • Lunch – because the day is very short and are not too many options for restaurants in the area we go, we suggest you to bring packed lunch

  • Insurance of any kind (travel, goods, etc.)

Cancellation policy

  • More then 90 days before the program you can postpone the trip (you will receive a voucher available 2 years).
  • Less then 90 days before the trip, the deposit is non refundable.

Itinerary

Morning – Departure & Early Birding

  • Pick-up from Tulcea City at your preferred location
  • Drive to the best geese-watching areas, stopping along the way to scan the fields
  • Slow exploration of steppe and lakes, looking for flocks of geese, ducks, and raptors

Midday – Forest and Marshland Exploration

  • Visit forest edges and small wetlands for passerines and additional raptors
  • Optional stop for a short break/snack (not included, but can be arranged)

Afternoon – Final Birding Stops & Return to Tulcea

  • Continue to key wintering bird habitats
  • End the day scanning evening roosting sites for birds preparing to settle for the night
  • Drop-off back in Tulcea after sunset (unless an earlier return is requested)

What to Bring?

  • Warm, waterproof clothing (layered for comfort)
  • Raincoat in case of unexpected weather
  • Winter boots suitable for uneven terrain
  • Gloves & hat for early morning and late afternoon cold
  • Binoculars (if you don’t have your own, we can provide some – let us know in advance)
