Dobrudja in 2 Countries - Romania and Bulgaria - 7d/6n - Private

When you say Dobruja, you think of a mystical land, totally special. But Dobruja it is not only Romania, Dobruja is also in Bulgaria, across the border are places as beautiful as here. Like here, fauna is rich and special and we want to show you all these places, birds and animals.

We dedicate this programs to birding and photography (this are not the classic tours, are not leisure). Of course we will discover wonderful places in Dobruja, we’ll find their stories but we put a very strong emphasis on fauna.

This program is a circuit through Dobruja, every night we have accommodation elsewhere, every day we experience the site-specific dishes, we see new places, beautiful places, we seek for fauna of these places.

From October 25 to February 28 we are looking in particular geese, raptors and small birds in beautiful places, along and across Dobruja.

In March we focus very much on spring migration of birds and that we can see in Dobruja only in migration, particularly along the Black Sea shore.

Itinerary

Day 1 – We meet in Tulcea and we accommodate in a hotel of 3 ***. In the evening we keep a technical meeting and discuss next day’s program.

Day 2 – At 6:00 am, after a coffee and a good breakfast, depart for Northern Dobruja, Macin Mountains. Climb (lite hiking) the most spectacular area of Macin Mountains, admiring the beautiful countryside and birds that find their winter site here. Winter in Macin Mountains can provide an unique experience. Then go to other areas in Macin and show you the beauty of places and fauna. We do not offer a very detailed route because we want to take you through “pathless” places and want to remain like this :-).

Since the days are short and nights long, we use the maximum period of light to visit as many places as we can. In the evening, after sunset, we have enough time to move to the location of the accommodation that evening.

Lunch we have packed and in the evening we return to the hotel where we draw conclusions on what we saw that day and eat a good dinner.

Day 3 – We leave again (like every day) to 6:00 am, for Histria and Enisala fortresses. On the way we stop in places that we know for good spots for birds, especially Geese. Lunch we have again packed, in the evening we sleep in Constanta.

Day 4 – Today we go to see a very special places, Dobruja Gorges. We have much to tell you about these places we have much to show you and (especially) we stop in some places where we’ll see birds. At night we sleep in Mangalia.

Day 5 – Early in the morning we go to Bulgaria, to the Black Sea shore, we want to show you Shags (we know some really good spots) and other birds wintering on the seashore. We go to see Cape Kaliakra and sleep in Varna. in the evening we’ll visit also Varna City, it’s worth.

Day 6 – Today we go around Varna lake, looking for birds and beautiful places then we head to Dobrich where we see other interesting places and sleep also in Dobrich.

Day 7 – After breakfast we go to Romania. Around 9:00 to 10:00 we are in Constanta and 12:00 to 1:00 we are back in Tulcea. If you come by car, we bring you back in Tulcea. If you come by public transport, we can let you in Constanta, if you have a better connection back home. Day tours

It lasts from 6 am to sunset. We go on road or not, the decision belongs exclusively to guide/drive to cross a field depending on weather conditions and road conditions (mud, ice, etc.).

Overall we go on the fields, looking for places, we scan for geese flocks and when we find a good place we’ll stay with the sun behind, to see what is happening.

If the weather worsens, snowing or foggy, user and / or driver can interrupt the tour. Customer safety comes first, always want to make sure that we can get back to town without any problems.

Walking

The walking effort is mostly easy throughout the tour if the weather conditions are normal. In this case we should be able to drive close to most hides.
