A Journey into the Heart of the Danube Delta

Embark on an unforgettable adventure through the breathtaking landscapes of the Danube Delta, where nature thrives in its purest form. Picture yourself gliding along winding channels, past floating carpets of water lilies, and into the heart of an untamed world. This journey will take you from the vibrant waters of the Delta to the timeless simplicity of Letea Village and the mysterious embrace of Letea Forest, the northernmost subtropical forest in Europe.

Departure – Your Adventure Begins

Your day starts early at Port Tulcea Aval, where you will meet us at 7:45 a.m. to get everything set before setting off at 8:00 a.m.. After a warm welcome and a quick rundown of the day’s adventure, you’ll board a comfortable boat, designed for small groups of up to 10 people, ensuring an intimate and immersive experience.

As the boat leaves the port, the city’s bustle fades behind, replaced by the serenity of the Delta. The morning light dances on the water as you navigate through a labyrinth of narrow, wild channels, surrounded by towering reeds and willows. Keep your eyes peeled, pelicans, herons, and kingfishers are often seen gracing these waters.

A Delta Voyage Like No Other

The journey to Letea it’s a mesmerizing exploration of one of Europe’s last wild paradises. You will follow some of the most scenic waterways, winding through hidden lakes and quiet backwaters, heading towards Mila 23 Village, a traditional Lipovan fisherman settlement. Here, you will take a short break to stretch your legs, enjoy a coffee and use the facilities before continuing northward.

Your route then leads over the expansive northern lakes, where flocks of birds gather in spectacular numbers, before finally arriving at Letea Village, a place where time seems to stand still.

Letea Forest – A Subtropical Surprise

At the debarkation point, an off-road safari car awaits to take you across the sandy, savanna-like terrain to Letea Forest. This is where the real adventure begins.

As you drive the 7 km from the village to the forest, you will witness a landscape that feels almost surreal, vast sand dunes stretching beneath an open sky, patches of lush green where oak trees stand defiant against the elements, and, if luck is on your side, a glimpse of the legendary wild horses of Letea. These majestic creatures roam freely, adding to the enchantment of the place.

Once inside the forest, you will continue on foot for about 20-30 minutes, following a route approved by the Danube Delta Administration. Here, ancient oak trees rise dramatically from the salty sands, their twisted branches draped in thick vines, giving the forest an almost mythical appearance. Each step uncovers a new wonder, from delicate orchids to hidden wildlife, all shaped by the Danube Delta’s unique microclimate.

A Taste of Local Life

Returning to Letea Village, you have the option to savor a traditional homemade meal at a local household. The food here is as authentic as it gets, freshly caught fish, garden-grown vegetables and age-old recipes passed down through generations. It’s more than just a meal; it’s a glimpse into the simple, beautiful life of the people who call this place home.

The Journey Back – A Different Perspective

After lunch, you will board the boat once again, taking a slightly different route back to Tulcea. The changing light of the afternoon casts a golden glow over the water, offering a fresh perspective on the landscapes you passed earlier.

As you cruise towards your starting point, there’s time to reflect on the day’s experiences, the thrill of exploring hidden corners of the Delta, the peacefulness of Letea’s sandy paths, and the rare beauty of one of Europe’s last wild frontiers. You will arrive in Tulcea around 7:00 p.m., bringing your journey to a close.

  • The exact route may vary depending on the season, water levels, and weather conditions. Your guide will choose the best itinerary for a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • Lunch at the local household is optional and can be arranged at the departure.
  • Comfortable clothing, sunscreen and a camera are highly recommended, this is a trip you’ll want to remember!

Bookings are based on the full payment of trip price.

  • Fees for visiting the Danube Delta imposed by the authorities (ARBDD)

The price DOES NOT include

  • Beverages
  • Lunch in Letea village, in local household – EURO 15/person. The reservation is made on the departure morning, at the boarding point. The payment for the lunch is done directly to the local household, cash in RON or EURO.
  • Insurance of any kind (travel, goods etc.)

Cancellation policy

  • More then 60 days before the program you can postpone the trip ( you will receive a voucher available 2 years).
  • Less then 60 days before the trip, the payment is non refundable.

Children policy

  • The minimum age for participating at this trip is 5 years (children born since 2020)
  • Children pay the full amount, regardless of their age.

Guaranteed departure:

  • With minimum 4 subscribed persons.

The boat

This trip is done with an OPEN BOAT. We want to show you the beauties of the Danube Delta, to see birds in flight and flocks of pelicans soaring.

With no roof, tarpaulin or windows. The boat looks like in the photos on the website. The speed for our trips is low/medium, our boats are NOT speed boats.

All our boats have benches with backrests for a maxim comfort. Every person on the boat will receive a life jacket, mandatory to wear it during the boat trip.

All the time we will try to show you something about the places we travel through, about the birds and the flora of the Danube Delta. Each season has its beauty, each area of the Delta has something particular and we’ll try to help you understand what makes the Danube Delta so special.

Being a SHARED program, this means the whole group goes with the same car/boat, at the same hours (hours detailed in the program). Please be on board at scheduled time for both.
