Escape into the breathtaking wilderness of the Danube Delta on an intimate, private boat trip to Mila 23 Village. This exclusive experience offers you and your group a peaceful, personalized adventure through some of the most spectacular landscapes in Europe.
With a private boat and an expert guide dedicated to your journey, you’ll navigate through hidden lakes, winding channels and pristine natural habitats, discovering the unique charm of Mila 23, a traditional fishing village deep within the Delta.
Your journey starts from Port Tulcea Aval, at a time of your choice, typically between 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. As you leave behind the town, you’ll quickly enter the untouched realm of the Delta. Within 15 minutes, the urban scenery fades, giving way to a world of water lilies, reeds and a dazzling array of birds.
Unlike rushed boat tours, this trip moves at a leisurely pace, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of the surroundings. Your guide will carefully choose the best route based on the season, water levels and weather conditions, ensuring a journey that showcases the most remarkable sights.
After approximately 3 hours, you’ll arrive in Mila 23, a secluded village accessible only by water.
Mila 23 is a small yet fascinating village where the Lipovan people, descendants of Russian Old Believers, have preserved their unique culture and traditions. Here, life revolves around the rhythm of the Delta, with fishing as the main way of living.
You’ll have time to stroll through the village, observe the traditional blue-and-white houses, and absorb the serene atmosphere of this unique settlement.
Starting 2024, walking and museum enthusiasts have the opportunity to visit the Ivan Patzaichin Museum in Mila23, the first New European Bauhaus ambassador in Romania. New European Bauhaus (NEB) is a new movement proposed by the European Commission, which promotes three fundamental European values: creativity, sustainability and community.
For Mila 23, the museum will act as a pole of local development, in the hope that it will inspire similar initiatives in other communities that aim to capitalize on local heritage by empowering local residents. Going forward, it remains a collaborative hub for UNESCO designations in Romania.
If you wish, you can enjoy a traditional lunch at a local household, where meals are prepared using fresh-caught fish and age-old recipes.
After lunch and exploration, you’ll begin the return journey to Tulcea, traveling mostly along the same route. However, as any traveler knows, the Delta looks completely different when seen from another angle. The changing light, shifting birdlife, and different perspectives make the return trip just as fascinating.
Expect to arrive back in Tulcea after approximately 2 hours, concluding your journey into the heart of the Delta.
This private day trip to Mila 23 offers a rare chance to experience the Delta at your own pace, without the constraints of a larger group. Whether you are a nature enthusiast or simply seeking a peaceful retreat, this trip will leave you with unforgettable memories of one of Europe’s most remarkable natural wonders.
