Meeting and boarding

The departure for this trip is from Port Tulcea Aval, at the time we have mutually agreed upon. As soon as you get through the barrier from the harbor entrance, 200 m away you will find the pontoon marked as “DEBARCADER PASAGERI” (passenger wharf). On the pontoon you will find us at the Souvenir Shop.

Passengers will board according to the instructions given by our staff. You need to answer the roll call and you will be directed to the boat by which you will travel. We kindly ask you not to board the first boat you will find at the pontoon, as this is a place where other companies board their tourists and you risk getting to another place.

Car parking

  • Private cars can be parked in Tulcea, in the very yard of the Port Tulcea Aval, in a private guarded car park.
  • The parking cost is EURO 5/day/car (the parking fee is NOT included in the price of the trip and it is an indicative fee as it can be modified by port management with no prior notice).
  • Reservations are not possible for parking spaces and their number is limited.

The trip lasts about 6 or 7 hours.

The trip

On a WINTER one-day trip, you have the opportunity to see a large part of the Danube Delta under the reign of cold, discover a spectacular piece of nature, in a landscape that only few people have the privilege to see.

We would like to show you the sweet and peaceful “seclusion” of birds and mammals enjoying the wintry atmosphere of the Danube Delta.

We leave from Tulcea and we journey on the route Sontea – Nebunu – Baclanesti – Furtuna – Mila 23, on canals and lakes that are not frozen. The route is not fixed, but we will adjust it depending on the ice and the weather conditions.

We will travel at a moderate speed so that we would not miss the multitude of bird species remaining or overwintering here. We may encounter the Tufted Duck, the Red-Crested Pochard, the Common Pochard, the Smew, the Common Merganser, the Pygmy Cormorant and the Great Cormorant, the Dalmatian Pelican, the Mute Swan, the Whooper Swan, the Greylag Goose, the Greater White-fronted Goose, the White-tailed Eagle, the Western Marsh Harrier, the Ggreat Egret and the Grey Heron or the Common Kingfisher. At Mila 23 we will get you warm with a local tsuica or a hot tea if you need to drive your car on the same day. Optionally you can also enjoy an authentic local Lipovan lunch.

On our way back we will focus again on the fauna and landscape and we get back to Tulcea before the sunset.

*Depending on the season, the water level and the weather conditions, the tour guide will decide which the best route to follow is.

What we will see – Winter in the Danube Delta – we always seek to tell you something about the places we go through, the birds and flora of the Delta, bird clusters and the flora that is typical for the season of our trip. Each season has its beauties and each area of the Delta has its peculiarities and we will help you discover them.

Recommended equipment

You will need personal equipment that is appropriate for very low temperature conditions during this period, which are sensed as even harsher when boating.

  • Windstopper
  • Softshell
  • First layer
  • Thermal trousers
  • Balaclava
  • Knit cap
  • Polarized sunglasses
  • Hiking boots are not appropriate as they are designed for hiking not for sitting a few hours in a boat, not moving. A very good solution would be warm boating boots (boots made from various materials having a felt sock inside), which can be found in fishing stores. High-quality versions have very well insulated soles and thick felt socks. If you add ski socks as well, you won’t have any problems.
